Helping Amateur and Professional Athletes

Successfully supporting and recovering return to play, from all levels of athlete to recreational, to competitive, professional and national/Olympic levels over the years.

Return to Play (RTP)

RTP and activity is everyone’s goal after concussion. But returning too soon puts an individual or athlete at the greatest risk of re-injury or prolonged recovery. Guidance is needed for individuals of any age who suffer concussions to Return them to competitive or recreational sports and activities. For some, this process may take only days and recovery can be achieved fairly quickly and uneventfully.

Many individuals suffer symptoms for weeks or longer, and in these instances, expert guidance and assistance is vital. Athletes who play competitive and collision sports require special management and evaluation to ensure a full recovery. We have supported athletes from Pee Wee to professional, Junior B to Olympic-level, high school and beer league members, as well as a full spectrum of recreational athletes in achieving successful RTP.

Full Sports Concussion Assessments & Treatment

As per the most up to date evidence-based guidelines, ACC provides a full assessment for athletes who’ve suffered from concussions, including an autonomic exertion screen, reaction time, oculomotor, vestibular and cervical spine assessment, following the Return to Play protocol (RTP).

Gait analysis, functional movement screens, and body awareness screens are included in the assessment and treatment framework in order to get an athlete back into action as soon as possible. We also focus on decreasing the likelihood of another concussion or injury elsewhere on the body.

With an emphasis on integrated systems rehabilitation, cardiovascular endurance, and reaction time, an athlete can feel confident in their comeback after attending treatment at ACC.

Get Your Baseline Testing at ACC

ACC provides baseline testing for teams and individual athletes. Baseline testing is recommended for all athletes, to be repeated each year, in order to aid in the diagnosis and treatment planning should that athlete suffer a concussion. Pre and post injury scores are compared, supporting diagnoses and informing recovery, therefore ensuring the most comprehensive and safe return to play decisions.
